2012 Veggie Festival


Activities will include cooking demonstrations, cooking competitions, and nutrition classes. The Veggie-Festival is free and open to the public. Entry to the International Vegetarian Festival will require a ticket that can be obtained by either attending one of the demonstrations/presentations, bringing your own plate and utensils, or pledging to go "meatless" for a day!

Presentation: "Ordering Vegetarian at Restaurants". How to successfully order vegetarian dishes when eating out at a non-vetarian restaurants!
3:00 p.m.Presentation:  “Eating Mindfully”.  Peace of body and mind – vegetarianism and meditation
4:00 p.m.Cooking Demo: “Versatile Tofu”. Different methods to use and cook tofu.
5:30 p.m.Presentation: “Vegetarians Don’t Get Enough Protein??”. Explores the myth that vegetarians don’t receive sufficient protein and presents the benefits of eating a healthy vegetarian diet.

3:00 p.m.Cooking Demo: “Grand House of OKC”. Cathy, owner of Grand House Restaurant, will demonstrate how to make a delicious Chinese desert.

Veggie Festival Guest Speakers


MS. JENNIFER CHU

Jennifer is the group leader of the Culinary Group of Chung Tai Zen Center of Houston, Texas. She has conducted numerous cooking classes with over 200 people at the Zen Center.  She relentlessly devotes herself in promoting vegetarian cooking. She has been interviewed by the Texas Chinese radio station, the Southern Daily News TV station and has been well received by the audiences.   By creating and experimenting with all types of cuisine, Jennifer makes vegetarian cooking, Asian to western, fun for the volunteers. “The kitchen is a great place to practice Buddhism,” said Jennifer with an air of ease and confidence.  Being a diligent Buddhist practitioner, Jennifer applies Buddha’s teachings to cooking and fully enjoys the process.

Jennifer is the main demonstrator and one of the presenters in this Veggie Festival event.



MS. CATHY CHEN

Cathy is the owner of Grand House Chinese Restaurant in OKC, a warm and quietly elegant bistro where you also can order delicious vegetarian dishes.
Cathy is one of the demonstrators in this Veggie Festival event.

MS. MAHINA GILLESPIE

Mahina has been a registered nurse for over 10 years living in the Norman area. She has been a vegetarian for most of her life but completely without wavering since taking the Three Vows and Five Refuges. She has explored many varieties of vegetarian lifestyle and loves to share those with others by sharing food, fellowship and education.
Mahina is one of the presenters in this Veggie Festival event.
